Behind-the-Scenes with Mati Rose

Mati has been a busy lady this last month working on her first painting book AND her first children’s books, but thankfully she made some time to answer a few more fun questions for us:

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A forensic detective!

What is one artistic avenue you’ve never explored, but would like to?
Metalsmithing.

Coffee or tea?
COFFEE! Today I’m experimenting with no coffee and am experiencing major withdrawal.

What meaningful advice do you have for aspiring creative entrepreneurs?
Build a community of talented people to have as your support system.

What would you do with 1 miiiiillliiooooon dollars?
Buy a house in the Bay Area!

How do you practice self care on a daily basis?
I take walks and have slow mornings.

What is one piece of technology you can’t live without?
Right now I’d love to live with out technology for a week. 🙂

What has been your biggest obstacle in living your dream?
The green stuff!

In the past year, what accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
Creating Teahouse Studio and Illustrating 2 kids books and a painting book!

What’s your one tip for successfully running a small business?
Gmail folders and to-do lists have saved me lately!

What does ‘Creative Sustainability in Life and Business’ mean to you?
Addressing your whole life with self-care.

How do you know Willo?
I met her at Renegade Craft fair and immediately felt an easy friendship with her! Then she became part of our biz group, LIDL. She’s a neighbor too, so we take hikes frequently!

Given the choice between relaxation and adventure, which vacation would you choose?
Relaxation… this is coming from a place from being maxed out!

What goals do you have for your business in the next 6 months?
Launch my website and do good work!

What has been your favorite moment so far today?
My walk along the marina with a friend and her baby.

Name one thing that owning your own business has given you the opportunity to work on.
Time management.

Do you have any rituals that help you get in the flow?
I’m such a closet hippie: I burn sage. 😉

What’s your next big adventure?
Teaching a painting class at my studio.

So many wonderful things goin’ on with this girl… and she’s so aware of her need to re-fill the well. I love my hikes with Mati… we just went on one this morning. And I’m so excited to see her books published, and take her painting class at Teahouse!
