Focus and attention is at a premium these days, so it’s crucial we’re aware of how we’re managing (or consciously not micro-managing) our work and personal email. At a deeper level, this is all about Energy Management.

How might your systems be draining (vs preserving and supporting) your Mental, Emotional, and Physical energy?

As the founder of the Wellpreneur podcast and author of the book, Wellpreneur: The Ultimate Guide for Wellness Entrepreneurs to Nail Your Niche and Find Clients Online, my friend Amanda Cook knows her stuff. Between the two of us – experienced online entrepreneurs, high-level coaches/consultants, and self-declared systems geeks – this episode packs a wallop!

Not only will you get some incredibly awesome process and tool recommendations, but the real juice is in what we share around mindset. Ultimately it’s the relationship between you and your email – your own boundaries and how you value your own time & energy – that cause a lot of the challenges.

We talk about…

what helped us take the pressure off (hint: getting to inbox zero shouldn’t be your top priority)

strategies for email management, in particular with how to manage all your many subscriptions to other lists, etc

how to create structure for the different roles in your business (e.g. bookkeeping, support, etc)

how to prepare and manage outsourcing your inbox to an assistant

incredibly insightful tools, tips and tricks (links are listed below!)

It doesn’t matter how successful you are, how much money you have in the bank or how many subscribers follow you – every entrepreneur has their bad days.

We all feel lost or want to hide occasionally. I work with so many amazing, talented clients and every one of us has tough days when we question what we’re doing or whether we’re good enough.

It’s my purpose and my honor to serve creative entrepreneurs and when these moments hit, I take them through a process that realigns them with their purpose. This can be a little scary sometimes, as they often end up baring parts of their soul, but it allows them to get to the core of what motivates them and what holds them back from unleashing their gifts fully.

In this video, I’m going to talk you through the method I use so you can hit play whenever you’re having a tough day. This process will help you find your way back to yourself and your purpose, allowing you to come out the other side glowing with new resolve and a renewed faith in yourself.

I’m a huge fan of Twitter. I’ve been on since 2006 (account #419, baby!*), all of my friends are on Twitter, and over the years I’ve cultivated so many great new friendships with awesome people around the world. It’s truly my community, and I love it!

Note: This is an old screenshot.
I’m now @WilloLovesYou on Twitter!

Follow @WilloLovesYou

Lovefest gushing aside, there’s a really common mistake I see people do all the time, and, because it’s difficult to explain in 140 characters (the character limit of any tweet), I thought I better do a geekyfantastic post explaining what’s up.

My Twitter Pro Tip for You

If you’re writing a tweet that you want everyone [who follows you] to see, be careful about starting the tweet with a username. Here’s why:

When you start a tweet with an @username, only the people who follow both you AND that @username will see that tweet in their timeline.

For example, say you’re wanting to give a shout out to me, and tell all your friends about my site (hey, just a thought – you might write:

@WilloLovesYou is awesome, you should check out
her incredible Harvest & Thrive course! https://bit.ly/HnThrive

However, if you send it with my username at the very beginning, ONLY the people who follow both you AND me will see that tweet in their timeline. Which, may defeat the purpose of your shout out, if you had intended to spread the word to friends who haven’t yet started following me on Twitter or discovered my site yet. Make sense?

Twitter’s making sure your Timeline is relevant for you

It works like this so that when you’re reading through your timeline, you only see your friend’s conversations back and forth, and you don’t have to read your friend’s tweet to some random person you don’t know.

How can you make sure everyone sees it?

Should you want to start your tweet with a username, that’s ok! You just need to put some kind of character in front of it, like a period, dash or asterisk. Anything works, but you most often see people using a period, like this:

.@WilloLovesYou is awesome, you should check out
her incredible Harvest & Thrive course! https://bit.ly/HnThrive

When you send it like that, everyone who follows you will see it!

This can be helpful when you’re replying to someone, but your reply is actually something you want your entire network to see. Simply place a period in front of the username you’re replying to, and everyone who follows you will see that tweet.

UPDATE: Twitter has even changed it’s UI (User Interface) to reflect this, so that when any visitor goes to your profile, they only see your Tweets & Retweets visible on the first tab, and your Replies are hidden/separated on another. This is because they’re assuming it’s probably a bunch of inside jokes and conversations that would be cluttering up your main timeline… and most of the time they’re right!

*A fun fact about my being on Twitter since 2006
My public account is @WilloLovesYou (formerly @WilloToons), but my original username registered is @willo (which I now use as my private account), and it’s account #419! Super OG. I have my friend Noah to thank for that one. Here’s my first tweet.

finishing up an amazing 5 star dinner with @alexknowshtml & @garyvee

— Willo Sana (@WilloLovesYou) November 8, 2007

I was in town with a bunch of friends, showing my WilloToons line at the BlogWorldExpo, and my friend Alex Hillman & I went out for dinner. He invited his friend Gary along, who happened to also be in town. Fine by me! Turned out this guy Gary knew quite a bit of about wine… he’s the founder of WineLibraryTV! Needless to say, we enjoyed a very nice bottle and had great conversation over an amazing 5-star meal at the Wynn.

We then proceeded to rock Vegas as one does when in Vegas!

https://twitter.com/alexhillman/status/397571572

Recently Gary & his crew cruised through SF, holding a Vayniacs Tasting event at Crushlab. A whole crew of us went and had such a blast!

I had told Gary about my t-shirt line at dinner in Vegas, so it was fun to give him one in person!

This one seemed appropriate, given his rising fame…

Gary Vaynerchuck with his new WilloToons “don’t you know who I am?’ tee.

UPDATE: It’s been so awesome to see @GaryVee explode lately! I wrote this post a long time ago, but we had many more fun times. Many in in Austin for SxSW…

I'm already at a panel – mostly to support @garyvee & get online/work – but seriously? I don't think I've ever made it to a 10am panel.

And again when he cruised back through SF for more tastings and events, like this one:
